For the first time in the history of India as a great honour to the Teachers of the country, His Excellency the President of India will be interacting as a Teacher, with the students of Delhi Government Schools on the eve of Teachers Day 2015. Education is the single most important priority for the new Government of NCT of Delhi. The Government is fully committed to transform the quality of education in all the Government schools and teachers are the corner stones of the Delhi Government’s efforts to provide highest quality education.
Since 1962, the birth anniversary of the second President of India Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan is being celebrated across the country in the honour of our illustrious teachers. To keep-up the high morale of our teachers, the Deputy Chief Minister conceived the idea that can be no greater honour to the teachers of our country than the first Citizen of India functioning as a Teacher on the Teachers Day.
Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia called upon His Excellency President of India a week ago with this historic request. The President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee has very kindly consented to interact with our students and teachers at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, New Delhi from 11.30 AM to 1.00 PM on 4th September, 2015. The students and teachers of Delhi are highly excited and eagerly waiting for the interaction with the President of India.
In the Budget 2015-16 of the Government of NCT of Delhi, education has received the highest allocation i.e 24% of the plan outlay, which is more than double as compared to the previous year. While the budget allocation can address the infrastructural gap in our schools, much more is required to transform the educational input the students are getting in Government Schools. To achieve this end, one of the initiative of Delhi Government is to have a programme ‘Be a Teacher’ in which renowned personalities from different walks of life i.e. art, culture, sports, business, politics and civil services would interact as a Teacher and share their pearls of wisdom in regular classroom settings and inspire the children to achieve excellence in life.
Delhi Government has already got consent of many such personalities. Deputy Chief Minister has appealed to all entrepreneurs artists, sports persons, leaders of industry, officers of judicial and civil services who are desirous to join this ‘Be a Teacher’ programme of Delhi Government.
The Government has taken the consent of several celebrities from different walks of life i.e. art, culture, sports, business, politics and civil services to interact with our students on a regular basis. Successful CEOs of MNCs, notable entrepreneurs and several senior civil servants have come forward to contribute their time and agreed to partner with our Government in enrichment of the experience of the Government school students. All interested entrepreneurs, artists, sports persons, leader of industry, officers of judicial and civil services are welcome to partner with Delhi Government in whatever way they can contribute in the innovative experience in transformation of education in Delhi.
