Chief Minister Delhi, Shri Arvind Kejriwal today appealed Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to give Rupees One Crore to the next kin of each martyr of Uri attack. Shri Kejriwal was speaking on the occasion of celebration of 110th Birthday of Shaheed Bagat Singh in the form of “SHAHEED UTSAV” organized by Delhi Government, at Talkatora Stadium in the Capital today. The Chief Minister also led the audience in keeping two minutes silence in the memory of 18 martyrs who sacrificed their lives during Uri attack.
Remembering the Supreme Sacrifice of Bhagat Singh for the cause of the mother land, Shri Kejriwal announced for setting up of ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh foundation’ by Delhi Govt. to perpetuate the memory of the great martyr. Earlier to this the Chief Minister also launched a web portal shaheedkosh.delhi.gov.in developed by Delhi Govt. to prepare a database of freedom fighters and martyrs from all over the country.
Shri Kejriwal felicitated 190 freedom fighters and family members of the martyrs from the states of Madhaya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Tamilnadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Mijoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Goa, Punjab & Uttarakhand. At the start he felicitated the family members and grandson of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and family members of Sukhdev. Later on Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Manish Sisodia and Labour Minister, Shri Gopal Rai felicitated the freedom fighters and family members of the martyrs.
Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Manish Sisodia was the Guest of honour, while Minister of Labour, Shri Gopal Rai presided over the function. The Cultural Programmes – “Mera Rang De Basanti Chola”, Light music/dance on patriotic theme and music by Astitva band apart from performance by Harbhajan Singh Maan also marked the occasion. Minister Shri Kapil Mishra, Dy. Speaker, MLAs, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, HODs and Heads of Autonomous Bodies and Corporations also graced the occasion.
Govt. of Delhi has a dedicated cell to serve the freedom fighters and their families. At present we are taking care of 40 freedom fighters, 193 widows of freedom fighters and 14 unmarried dependent daughters. All of them are being paid a monthly pension and has access to medical facilities from any hospital without any limit. During the financial year 2014-15 this Govt. disbursed about Rs. 2.36 Crore as pension and about Rs. 88 Lakh as medical reimbursement.
